On the eve of Thanksgiving we headed off to our "big" ultrasound. Today was the day we would see the babies and check on their progress. Today was also the day we could find out boys, girls or both...and you bet we jumped at the chance to find out!
First let me say, it was marvelous to have the appointment at 8:30 in the morning. This way, I didn't burn a hole in our carpet with pacing waiting for the time to come. Jason took a half day today to be with me in the morning. He wouldn't miss this appointment for anything.
The moment the technician placed the controller on my belly, images of actual human beings popped up on the screen. We haven't seen the nuggets since 10 weeks and let me affirm that in 10 weeks time...they have grown so much and they really do look like little people!
I was quite nervous and excited for this appointment. I was excited to see them, yet I was nervous because we opted to forgo any testing that would tell us birth defects, downs syndrome, etc. Dr. G said we could learn all of these things at the 20 week ultrasound....so we waited.
Our children are ACTIVE little buggers. Seriously, they were moving around so much the ultrasound took 45 minutes to complete. I didn't mind...it gave me more time to stare in awe at the monitor and watch my children frolic about. I could literally watch their movements and feel the jabs they were doing. They just wouldn't sit still one bit which caused quite a bit of humor and laughter between Jason and I.
There we sat, holding hands...watching as she measured each of the 4 chambers of their hearts, the kidneys, the brain, the femur bones in their legs, their elbows to their hands, their bellies....those bellies and hands where we'll be sure to give many kisses...right there before my eyes. I couldn't believe it. I am still trying to grasp the miracle of life.
Baby A sits horizontal right across the base of my uterus. This is the one who I've felt first, the one who jabs my bladder. Baby B sits vertical right down the middle. Baby A measures 19weeks, 3 days (which is exactly what I am) and Baby B measure 19weeks, 4 days. They look perfect in all measurements which gave me a huge sigh of relief.
The big question: Do you want to know? OF COURSE! Thankfully enough, both our children gave a clear "backside bendover" and we were able to see for ourselves. Baby A is a BOY: Baby B is a GIRL! We couldn't be more excited!!
Ladies first, Daddy's Girl....
Since our daughter (Baby B) is laying vertical we weren't able to get a clear profile of her, but below are pictures of her "bendover" (she'll be so embarrassed) and an image of her and her foot. Jason is already convinced she will have her mother's monster feet and toes and from the looks of it, he may be right.
The Momma's Boy....
Already full of energy, this little guy was going nuts! It was hilarious to watch him kick, punch and squirm about. He is laying directly flat across the bottom of my uterus...basically already telling his sister "you're not going anywhere until I say so". He is also the main reason (sitting on my bladder) why I'll desperately need to go pee and when it's all over I'm left thinking - That's it? Jason was quite proud of the "bendover" shot...as any father would be!
With joy, anticipation and excitement in my heart I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
